Women in my life

I was looking at my flickr photostream and seeing some clear themes. Obviously, there is the coffee theme. Recently, it shows up

and here

and here (in the background).

Of course, if you look closely, you will realize that there is another theme in those three pictures as well. They show my mother, my wife, and our daughter. (If you want a clearer picture of Nancy, go here but I had a theme going.).

Why talk about them tonight? After all, it isn’t our anniversary, or Mother’s Day or anyone’s birthday. I didn’t do anything wrong that I have to make up for (that I know of). I’m not needing to do anything impressive or penitential, nor am I anticipating any such thing in the immediate future.

1. Apparently, according to Marti Lawrence, today is free hug day. Two of these people I have hugged, the other I would love to. And the point of hugs is that they happen not because they have to, not because of a particular day, not because of any kind of oughtness, but because of a getness. I get to, I have the privilege of being able to hug these three women in public or private, without any concern of appropriateness, because they are the three most important women in shaping my life. Hugging is a gift.

2. I have no clue what will happen tomorrow. As a result, letting you know about these three people is a pretty important thing. Not because of the specialness of any particular day, but because we don’t know which day will be special. So today, tonight, is special because I get to look at these people.

Tonight, tomorrow, sometime this week, let at least someone you know know that you love them. Give them a hug. Write them a post. Tell them.

Or at least have a cup of coffee with them.
